Basketball

Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, typically consisting of five players each, compete to score points by shooting a ball through the opposing team’s hoop, or basket, elevated 10 feet above the playing surface. The game is played on a rectangular court, with a hoop at each end. Players can score points in various ways: by making field goals (two or three points, depending on the distance from the hoop) or free throws (one point).

Basketball involves a combination of skills such as dribbling, passing, shooting, and defending. The objective is to outscore the opponent by accumulating more points throughout the game, which consists of four quarters or two halves, depending on the league or competition.

The sport is governed by specific rules, including regulations on fouls, time limits, and player conduct. Basketball is known for its fast-paced nature, agility, and athleticism, making it one of the most popular and widely played sports globally.
