Portuguese League

The Portuguese League, officially known as Primeira Liga, is the top professional football division in Portugal. It is the premier level of the Portuguese football league system and is organized by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF). The league consists of 18 teams that compete against each other in a round-robin format, where each team plays every other team twice, once at home and once away. The league operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the second tier of Portuguese football, known as Liga Pro.

Established in 1934, the Primeira Liga is known for its competitive nature and has produced several clubs that have achieved significant success in European competitions. The team with the most points at the end of the season is crowned the league champion. The league is also a critical platform for player development, showcasing emerging talent and serving as a stepping stone to larger clubs across Europe.

The Portuguese League is renowned for its passionate fan base, vibrant atmosphere at matches, and a rich history of footballing tradition. Its teams, including giants such as FC Porto, SL Benfica, and Sporting CP, have substantial followings both in Portugal and internationally.
