Nogomet

“Nogomet” is the term used in Croatian and several other Slavic languages to refer to the sport commonly known as soccer or football. It is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each, where the objective is to score goals by getting a spherical ball into the opposing team’s net. The game is played on a rectangular field, known as a pitch, with a goal at each end. Players primarily use their feet to maneuver the ball, except for goalkeepers, who can use their hands within a designated area. Nogomet is governed by the rules established by FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) at the international level, and it is one of the most popular sports globally, known for its widespread fan base, professional leagues, and competitive tournaments, including the World Cup. The term encompasses not only the sport itself but also the cultural significance, community events, and various levels of competitive play associated with it in regions where the language is spoken.
