Basketball

Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, typically consisting of five players each, compete to score points by shooting a ball through the opposing team’s hoop or basket. The game is played on a rectangular court with a hoop at each end, elevated 10 feet above the ground.

Players advance the ball by dribbling or passing it to teammates and can score by making field goals (worth two or three points, depending on the player’s distance from the hoop) or free throws (each worth one point, awarded after certain fouls). The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.

Basketball emphasizes skills such as shooting, dribbling, passing, and defense, and features various strategies and plays to outmaneuver the opposing team. It is popular worldwide, and professional leagues, such as the NBA, have significant followings. The sport fosters teamwork, coordination, agility, and physical fitness.
