Football

Football refers to a team sport in which two teams, typically consisting of eleven players each, compete to score goals by moving a ball into the opposing team’s net. The game is played on a rectangular field known as a pitch, with a goal at each end. While football can refer to various forms of the sport across the world, it most commonly denotes association football, known in the United States and Canada as soccer.

The objective is to score more goals than the opposing team within the match duration, usually consisting of two halves of 45 minutes each, with a possible stoppage time added. Players primarily use their feet to control and advance the ball, and only the goalkeepers are allowed to use their hands within the penalty area.

Football is governed internationally by FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association), which organizes events like the FIFA World Cup, showcasing the sport’s global popularity. Football is characterized by its emphasis on teamwork, strategy, and skill, making it one of the most followed and played sports worldwide.
